Thrilling Beach Reads

Updated: Jul 17

This summer is hot. There’s nothing like a good thriller to chill you to your bones. The Siren has three recommendations, all read during the Happy Hundred. Head to your favorite relaxing spot, at the beach, the lake, the pool, or even a day in your air-conditioned cozy spot indoors and crack open a cool, chilly thriller! This applies to the thunderstorms that roll through and change up the day.

Thrillers come in all shapes and sizes, and these three thrilled and chilled me. What I love most about thrillers is that they’re fun! Sure, sometimes we can guess the ending, but the journey of the puzzle is half the fun. I kicked my feet a bit with these.

Add these to your to-be-read lists (TBR), or grab them from The Siren’s digital storefront (powered by bookshop.org).

Jake Fisher met Natalie, the love of his life, at a retreat in Vermont. He also watched the love of his life marry another man six years ago. When Jake sees a surprising obituary announcing the death of Natalie’s husband, he attends the funeral to find out what’s going on. Only. when he arrives, it’s really not her husband. Chaos ensues.

I felt like I couldn’t turn the pages quickly enough with this book. The story flows, it’s exciting and it keeps you guessing throughout. Each read reignites the spark of love and fun of Six Years. I’ll recommend it forever. It’s truly a dreamy beach read.

“Are you happy with your life?” is the last thing Jason hears before the kidnappers knock him out. When Jason awakes, he isn’t in his world. His wife isn’t his wife. His son was never born. Is he in a dream, is he even alive, what happened? The tangled web of Crouch’s mysteries and atmosphere is an unmissable experience.

When I tell you there are not enough hours in a day to read Blake Crouch I mean it. That man can spin a thriller that will wrap you up completely. Apparently, I dig thrillers where the main character has a lot of occupational flexibility because Jason is also a professor, much like our pal Jake above. I kicked my legs from excitement reading this one. I hope you will too.

Alice Lindstedt has been obsessed with the vanishing residents of the old mining town since she was a child. Now, as a documentary filmmaker, it’s her chance to record the story of the townspeople who disappeared, including her grandmother’s family. The team sets up camp. It becomes night. Spooky adventure awaits.

I love a Blair Witch-adjacent story. Spooky scary time in Sweden? Sign me up! This is a fun thriller with interpersonal conflict, complicated family lore, and maybe ghosts in a few forms. Cool down in Sweden with this chilly fun thriller, likely to delight and keep you on the edge of your seat.

Whatever your thriller speed, these are for you! There is no wrong way to find your next beach read! Open your mind to fun, and relax as you dig into these cool stories. The Siren is always here for what’s calling to you!
